Many private and public institutions provide education in Omaha. Omaha Public Schools runs the city's largest public school district and is the largest school district in Nebraska with over 45,000 students within over 75 schools. The Nebraska State Legislature recently approved a controversial plan to split Omaha into three distinct "learning communities" with a central administrative board.
